Ok I know what you are saying to yourself, the first page I read and this guy is going on about wild birds, its supposed to be a site about pets.

But sit back recap, have a think, all of our pets originally came out of the wild, who do you think domesticated them. That’s right our ancestors without them we would not have the pleasure of having our furry friends.

I wont take up much of your time, and you never know you may even get some enjoyment out of feeding the wild birds.

I am going to give you a few tips and home recipes you can make in no time, and you will be helping out nature along the way.

You could always go the easy route and buy wild bird seed, but what the hell a few minutes in the kitchen wont hurt.

Linda my wife says the only time I manage to find the kitchen is when I am going to do a spot of food for the birds. She is probably right on that score.

* This one is dead simple as long as you can find some pinecones.

* Spread some peanut butter or fat over the pinecone, roll the pinecone into some bird seed until it is completely covered, tie a piece of string to the cone and hang it up in the garden. The birds will absolutely love this.

* The men among us will probably need a hand here because it involves turning the microwave on, only joking guys.

* You will need a big dollop of peanut butter.
A couple of tablespoons of water.
¼ cup of chopped fruit, if you are idle like me use raisins.
¼ cup of oatmeal.(porridge oats).

* Pour the oatmeal into a microwave safe bowl, just cover the oatmeal with the water, and slap it in the microwave. Cook on high for about three minutes or until the oats have gone soft, have a taste it’s not bad.

Remove the bowl from the microwave be careful because it’s hot, stir the oats until all the water is absorbed, add the peanut butter stirring all the time until the peanut butter melts.

Now add your fruit stir all of the ingredients together, leave to cool and try not to eat too much of it, it is for the birds.

Put it outside on the bird table they will demolish it in no time.

If you have any fruit left that has started to go soft, don’t throw it in the bin, cut it up and put it on the bird table, you will be rewarded by the site of many different types of bird.

Keep a dish of water on the bird table for them after all we have a drink with a good meal.

What if I cant be bothered learning how to use the microwave I hear you ask, no problem go to your local market and buy some fat balls for the birds, hang them up out of the way of cats and the jobs done.

Sit back and gloat on the fact you have done something for the environment folks.
